'Preparing the Acoustic Floyd Experience Set'

Taking the music of Pink Floyd, with their 20-plus minute long songs, psychedelic soundscapes, and iconic guitar solos, and arranging it for two musicians was not without its challenges.

First, we selected the songs that we would play. We set out to include at least one song from each of the band's studio albums to reflect their rich history, and we made sure to include a mixture of fan favourites and obscure gems.

The heart of the arrangements lay with the acoustic guitar and the human voice, so we took existing guitar parts from the song, and then added harmonised voicings on the second guitar or adapted keyboard parts from the original song. Where we could, we also used vocal harmonies to enrich the sound.

With these core parts in place, we took time to experiment with guitar effects, adding delays, reverb, shimmer, octave sounds, phasers, and other effects to make the music sound more “progressive”. We still felt that the show needed something more, and so we used multiple loop pedals and live percussion to make the performances feel more complete.
